One Tay resident among 26 new COVID-19 cases in region Friday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 26 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (June 10).

There are 222 active cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,131 cases of COVID-19 with 11,223 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.

There are 24 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes one new hospitalization since yesterday's update. 

The health unit has reported a total of 4,782 variant strain cases, with 152 of those still active. 

To date, 365,675 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (60.5 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is 71.1 per cent of the region's over-18 population.

As of today, 56,286 people (9.3 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose. 

There are 11 locations in Simcoe County currently in active COVID-19 outbreaks, including one childcare setting (four cases), a transportation and warehousing workplace (two cases), a food and beverage workplace (three cases), Mill Creek Care Centre long-term care home in Barrie (fewer than five staff cases), an ambulatory health care service (five cases), and four group homes. 

All four group homes in outbreak are located in Simcoe County. The latest outbreak was declared June 11 and the health unit is reporting nine COVID cases involved in the outbreak. The other three were declared June 8 (five cases), June 3 (two cases), and May 29 (two cases). 

Other than for public institutions, the health unit does not provide the name or specific location of a premises in outbreak. 

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Tay (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to close contact. 
  • Collingwood (3): One youth under 18 years old, and two people between 35 and 44 years old. All three cases are linked to close contact transmission.
  • Wasaga Beach (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Barrie (5): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and one is outbreak-related.
  • Innisfil (2): Two people between 18 and 34 years old. One case was community-acquired and one is linked to close contact transmission.  
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact and one is listed as community-acquired. 
  • Orillia (1): ONe person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is outbreak-related. 
  • Ramara (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Severn (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Oro-Medonte (8): Five youth under 18 years old, and three people between 18 and 34 years old. All eight cases are outbreak-related. The health unit has specify the type of outbreak setting nor the specific location of the outbreak. 

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on June 11).
