August 22, 1938 - August 30, 2023

It is with much love and sadness that our family announces the passing of Roberta “Jill” Harding shortly after her 85th birthday. On August 30, 2023, Jill chose to follow the magical power and light of the Super Blue Moon. Born in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) on August 22, 1938, to Charles Cattanach Milne and Violet Mae Mathison, (“Chuck and Babe”), she was the third of four daughters including “Bunty”, Heather, and her dear surviving sister Diane.

Jill’s husband Glenn will deeply miss his lifelong love. Together since high school in 1954 and married 62 years, Jill and Glenn built a lasting partnership that was an inspiration to all who knew them. Frank Sinatra’s “Blue Moon” was their song, and it will forever remind us of their easy dances together, her radiant smile and her piercing crystal blue eyes.

Outgoing and adventurous, Jill interned at East York General and became an award-winning surgical nurse. Her enthusiasm for Glenn and Bob’s football, Lori and Diana’s achievements, Friday night parties, family dinners, hosting gatherings, games, and travel, was endless. Jill lived a life filled with love and commitment to her family and friends. She welcomed a houseful of dogs and cats and passed that passion on to her children. Jill’s warmth and generosity of spirit endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Jill was sharp, witty, wise, and philosophical, and she learned long ago to rely on humour through hard times.

Jill’s legacy lives on through her children. She was a fierce and loving champion of her kids and their spouses, Bob & Josette, Lori, and Diana & Thom. She was a bursting-with-pride grandmother to Tyler, Jackson, Phil, Gab, Mitchell, and Lukas. To her many nephews and nieces, she was a caring and wise Aunt, and with open arms she generously extended her nurturing to all her children’s friends.

While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the joy she brought into our lives. In her honour, let's remember to laugh a little louder, love a little harder, and consider the importance of being present in all moments in this complicated world.

A celebration of Jill’s life will take place Saturday September 9th, 2023 to bring together family and friends to remember and share the memories of this remarkable woman. We know that her legacy of love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Blue moon you knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

We love you and miss you,
Glenn & Family
xoxo
