With his wife of 55 years by his side, Bob passed on Tuesday, April 12 2022. Son of the late George and late Rena (nee Couzins) Armstrong, Bob was 76 years old. He is survived by his brother Jim Armstrong, wife Betty Ann (nee Dales), children Donna Armstrong (Kevin Grubbe) and David Armstrong (Danielle) and Poppa to Rena Chouinard (Carl), Travis Shirley, and Kevin and Sarah Armstrong. Bob and Betty Ann ran many businesses together over the years. Bob’s high work ethic, fairness and excellent people skills made Line 9 Auto, Armstrong’s Esso and B & B Esso thrive. Many of his customers and peers became friends. And you could always count on Bob for a joke of the day (or two!) when you saw him. Bob was also a loyal employee of Parry Automotive in Orillia for 18 years, after he retired from being a mechanic.
Bob was an active member of the Oro Lions Club for many years. He was very proud of the work they did in the community. Barrie Speedway was also a big part pf Bob’s life. He volunteered to do track clean-up on race days in the 70’s. In the late 80’s into the 90’s, you could find him behind the wheel of the Barrie Speedway Pace Car.
Bob also sponsored many local boys that raced, including his son David. Most weekends you would find 2 or 3 cars in his shop at Line 9. Bob was a huge animal lover. In his memory Bob wished for donations to the Canadian Wildlife Federation in lieu of flowers.
With his family, please join us to celebrate and remember Bob at Adams Funeral home on Saturday, April 16th 2022, from 10am – 2pm. A private family interment will follow.
