It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Barbara Barnes announce her passing in Glendale Arizona.
Barbara passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, February 11th, 2023, at the age of 76.
Barbara was a lifelong best friend to husband David Barnes; mom and best friend to their children Michelle, Jon, and Marissa (and fur-child Gucci); sister to Randi (Jon), sister-in-law to Norman (Bernice) and the most revered bubie to grandchildren, Alexandra, Olivia, Ganon, Harley, and Summer. Barbara was preceded by her late dear parents Anne and Sydney Chikofsky.
Barbara was a force of nature. She left a lasting impression on anyone who had the good fortune to be part of her life. She was funny, spicy, and full of an energy that made her truly magical. Among the most noteworthy of her characteristics was how she retained such youthful beauty—she was timeless and ageless in how she approached the world with childlike wonder and excitement. Barbara and Dave met as teenagers at Downsview Secondary School. During their 57-year marriage, they traveled the world together. Whether traveling to see friends or traveling with lifetime friends, Barbara and Dave went on many adventures and enjoyed a beautiful life together. In Orillia, Barbara spent time with her dear friends from Sophie’s Landing, and of course, was known to be out daily walking with Gucci. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family and friends; however, just as she was loved, she will be remembered with love.
The family has had a small service in Peoria and cremation has taken place as per Barbara’s wishes. We wish to express thanks to Rob and Stephanie Panacci for being there to support us during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held in Orillia in July of 2023.
