Forever in our hearts, Margaret “Peggy” Isabell Cook, 97, passed away peacefully at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 11th, 2020.
Devoted mother of Bill Cook, Janice Upenieks and Don Cook (Laurel Edgar). Cherished Grandmother of Jennifer (Tim Mabel) and Jonathan Cook, Andrew and John Upenieks and Great Grandmother of Max, Jameson and Scarlett.
Peggy is predeceased by her adoring husband Robert ‘Bob’ Cook, her son Jack Cook, son in law Leo Upenieks, sister Ellen Dunn and twin sister Jean Faulkner.
Peggy grew up in Deville, Alberta and moved across the country to Fergus, Ontario when she met Bob to start their married life. She was an exceptional wife and mother who held the family together when Bob was away on his weekly sales calls. She made any city a home as the family moved to Port Stanley, Bolton, Buffalo, and Etobicoke. Peggy cherished the last eight years of her life in Orillia living around the corner from all of her children.
Peggy was well known as the best Grandma around town earning her the name ‘Aunt Peggy’ from neighbours and friends. She cared deeply for everyone she touched, not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help to anyone in need and had the best shoulder to cry on. Her hugs were legendary and you could feel the love pouring out of her with every breathtaking squeeze.
Peggy was incredibly gifted in the arts. She became an avid painter in her later years. She had a gift for turning photographs taken by her family on their travels into cherished mementos that adorn their walls. Peggy loved music and playing the piano. She always had time to sing a song, particularly from her Alberta roots.
A special thank you to the staff at Birchmere Retirement Residence for providing Peggy with care and love in her final years.
In keeping with Peggy’s wishes cremation has occurred and she will be laid to rest at the McKee Cemetery near Fergus, Ontario. At this time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no public service. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Peggy’s honour to a charity of your choice.
