EMSLIE Frederick Peter

August 10, 1937 - December 26, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather at the age of 83.

Fred passed away suddenly at home with his family after enjoying a wonderful Christmas Day. He was the cherished husband of 52 years to the late Judy. Together they raised 4 children, Frederick (Robin), Michael (Nelida), Deborah Troian(Lance) and John. He was loved and admired by his 7 grandchildren Megan, Madison, Gillian, Michael, Allison, Christopher and Jeffrey.

Fred was the son of Frederick and Mary Alice Emslie (Kerr), brother to Marlene and the son-in-law of Raymond and Constance Crothall (Thompson), all predeceased. Fondly remembered by his large extended family.

Fred was a kind hearted, honest, down to earth and generous man. Family was everything to him. He spent his life quietly encouraging and supporting his family.

After graduating from Lawrence Park High School Fred began working and training to be a mechanic in his father’s Texaco Station on Avenue Road in North York. Together with Judy they grew their business, Fred Emslie Ltd and in 1986 moved it to a larger location in Downsview. Fred worked long hours and had the highest work ethic but always managed to be there for everyone, especially his family. He had a love for cars, whether it was fixing them, watching his young sons at the go-kart track or following the Nascar circuit. He retired in his early 50’s and spent the next 30 years at the cottage on Lake Simcoe and in St. Pete Beach, FL enjoying life with Judy, his kids and grandkids. He loved spending his retirement tinkering with his ’64 Impala, ’69 Beaumont and ’78 Indy Pace cars. Fred always had a sly smile, a twinkle in his eye and a quiet sense of humour. He had a heart of gold that will never be forgotten. His heart was broken when Judy passed in 2019 and it gives us some comfort to know they are together again.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations to Diabetes Canada or JDRF through the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia (705)325-2231 would be greatly appreciated.
