January 27th, 1935 - November 22nd, 2023

After a courageous yet grace-filled 17-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, our beautiful Jean quietly passed away at Trillium Manor on November 22nd,2023 with family by her side.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Paul. They met and became high school sweethearts at Malvern Collegiate in Toronto some 73 years ago. Jean was the beloved mother and cherished friend of three daughters, Dr. Nancie Evans (Alan Risen), Patti Scott (Michael White), and Jackie Evans. A selfless and loving grandmother, her pride and joy were her five beautiful grandchildren, Jeffrey, Mallory (Luke), Maggie, Pamela, and Adam. She would have been overjoyed to welcome her first great-grandchild this coming February (Mal & Luke). Family meant the world to Jean.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Evelyn Dickson, and her brother John and sister-in-law Joan. She will be missed by their children and their families.

Jean possessed many skills and wonderful attributes. She was a fabulous cook and gracious hostess who welcomed many into her home, always with a warm hug and big smile. An exceptional seamstress, Jean made her own wedding dress when she was just 19. Years later, she taught men’s tailoring at Community College and started her own business, “Seams Right by Jean”. After a stellar secretarial career, Jean went on to become a Law Clerk, later rising to the position of Office Manager of a Criminal Law firm and ultimately running the Legal Aid office in Oshawa.

Jean and Paul retired to their home on Bass Lake in 1993, where many great family memories were made over the years. They became active golfers and lawn bowlers and participated in many local area groups and volunteer organizations. Through winter months spent at their condo in Top of the World, Clearwater, and their extensive travels around the world, they made many good friends along the way. Jean will be sadly missed by those whose special friendships meant so much to her.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff at Trillium Manor for the exceptional care, support and love that they shared with Jean during her seven years with them. We will be forever grateful to all of you.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Saturday January 6th,2024 at Hawk Ridge Golf Course, 1151 Hurlwood Lane, Severn, Ontario from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., with tributes commencing at 2:30pm.

If desired, memorial donations to Trillium Manor, The Alzheimer’s Society of Simcoe County, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated and can be made at the Celebration of Life or by contacting Mundell Funeral Home.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
