Eugene Laurence Fitzhenry 1933-2024

Larry Fitzhenry, son of Joseph and Lilian (Tadman), passed away on January 27, 2024 in Orillia, Ontario. The youngest of four children, Larry was born and raised in Toronto and attended North Toronto Collegiate and Assumption University.

Following university, Larry began teaching at Orillia District Collegiate And Vocational Institute where he met and married fellow teacher Anne White. Larry taught in the Commercial department at ODCVI from 1962-1992, and loved being part of that community.

Larry also loved his adopted home of Orillia and was an active member of various community associations including The Y's Men, Probus Club, and Champlain Seniors. He was devoted to The Church of the Guardian Angels where he sang in the choir.

He enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz and Big Band. Always ready to break out in song, he loved singing the classics along with his wife on the piano. He enjoyed reading and travel, but especially spring breaks in Myrtle Beach and winters in Florida, where he and Anne made very special friendships.

Larry enjoyed an active lifestyle in general, but it was tennis where his athleticism shone brightest. He was a skilled and graceful player on the court, but also a strong advocate for the game, serving many years as President of the Orillia Tennis Club. He also very much embraced the social aspect of tennis and made many lasting friendships.

Larry is predeceased by his daughter Maureen Williams. He is survived by his beloved wife Anne, son Michael, and grandchildren Jane and Tom, plus a wide and loving circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Gerry (Betty), sister Maureen (Bill) and brother John (Judith).

The family expresses it's sincere appreciation to the medical team in Orillia and Barrie, the visiting nurses of Bayshore Home Health and the staff of Mariposa House Hospice for the care and compassion during his illness. A very warm thank you for the gracious acts of kindness and support from family, friends and neighbors.

Following cremation visitation will be held at Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia on Sunday February 4, 2023 from 1 -4 PM. Parish Prayers will be held Sunday at 12:45 PM.
