Trevor Foster (92), of Kilworthy, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, on March 10, 2024.
Trevor was born in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England, on the 14th of Aug 1932. When he started work, he followed the lead of his father and started at the steel works in Scunthorpe. He apprenticed as an electrician and once he gained his qualifications, through night school, he became an Electrical Engineer.
Growing up in Scunthorpe he was an avid cyclist and footballer. He was also heavily involved in the Youth Centre, in Scunthorpe.
He met the love of his life, Eileen Dale, at a dance in Scunthorpe when he was 17 years old. When he reached 21, Eileen said, “I think it is time we were married”. There marriage endured for more than 60 years. Sadly, he was predeceased by Eileen in 2016.
When he was called up to do his National Service, he once again followed in his father’s footsteps, and joined the Royal Navy. He served on the HMS Leeds Castle as a Petty Officer with the trade of electrical artificer.
Trevor’s career spanned many years and countries. In 1969 he and the family emigrated to Canada. He worked across Canada from Labrador, to British Columbia, and NWT with a stop in Orillia, Ontario where he became the General Manager at Orillia Water Light and Power. Internationally he worked in Portugal, Peru, and Saudi Arabia.
He retired in the mid nineties to his home in Kilworthy with Eileen.
Throughout his life he was a Mason, Shriner, and with Eileen, held many positions as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, including Worthy Patron. He was a founding member of the Grand Lodge of Newfoundland.
He was an avid golfer. He became President and part of the team that created the golf course in Logan Lake, British Columbia.
He is survived by his eldest daughter Jane McKay, partner to John McKay (Prince Edward Island). They lovingly cared for him for the last 4 months of his life.
His son Robert Foster, partner to MaryAnne Marshall (Gravenhurst, Ontario). He will be greatly missed by members of MaryAnne’s extended family, with whom he spent many holidays and celebrations. He especially enjoyed teasing and playing with MaryAnne’s great-nieces, Blaire and Blake.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Foster, partner to Steve Burnie, ( Innisfil).
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Lighthouse in Orillia, and the Salvation Army in Gravenhurst, would be greatly appreciated. Helping those less fortunate was important to Dad.
