Joan Gardy, age 75, loving mother, and adoring wife to husband Wayne Gardy, passed away on June 16th while holding hands with family.

She was born Linda Joan Makins, daughter to Mildred (nee Linforth) and Lloyd Makins in Toronto. Joan was influenced by her grandfather and Auntie Vi to be a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others. She met her husband Wayne in 1974 while playing cards with his brother Moe. They fell in love instantly and knew they both shared a love of family. As a mother she was generous, loving and kind. She enjoyed the many adventures that came with raising her 5 children: Kristine, Ben, Amy, Nicole and Milisa. Joan was a grandmother to 7 and was absolutely thrilled to hear about their lives and interests.

In her free time, Joan was always with knitting needles or crochet hooks in hand. It brought her great joy creating homemade gifts for loved ones and contributing to many years of church bazaars.

She will be greatly missed by her church family at St James, who were a huge part of her life for the past 50 years. She loved her church groups and her "Cruise" friends from OSMH as sisters. She was a second mother to numerous hockey and lacrosse boarders, college students and stray friends her children brought home.

Joan is survived by her husband of 48 years, her 5 children, 7 grandchildren, brother Robin and sister Cheryl. She was also blessed to be loved by her many Gardy brothers and sisters-in-law: Carole, Ken & Diane, Joe, Moe & Rose, Diane, Paul & Sharon.

There will be a service on July 1st at 10am at St James Church. A Canada Day themed Celebration of Life will follow in the auditorium at noon. Please wear red & white as requested by Joan herself. All are welcome.

It was Joan's wish that people make donations to St James Church, in lieu of sending flowers. She would also want you all to think of her as an "angel on your shoulder".
