It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Guise on December 26, 2023, at his home. He was 64 years old.
Adored husband of Roslyn, née Forsyth. Beloved father of Neil and his wife Cassandra of Toronto. Proud and caring grandfather of Nolan. Dear son of the late Robert and Leona.
Brother to David and his wife Mary of Perth, Australia; Barbara and her husband Dale of Calgary; Donald and his wife Virginia of Oakville; and Kenneth of Calgary.
Doug’s humour was one of his most cherished traits, characterized by a sharp, dry wit that effortlessly turned any situation into a moment of joy and laughter. He had a unique ability to be the life of the party, charming everyone with his clever and playful banter.
Beneath this lively spirit, he was a man of kindness and a quietly caring soul, touching hearts in the most genuine way. He was sincerely interested in people's stories and cared about them - even people he didn’t know. He supported The Lighthouse Orillia and food bank and was a caring and compassionate member of the community but was not one to boast.
A passionate and devoted music enthusiast, whether it was from his collection of records, tapes, and CDs or strumming one of his guitars, Doug brought music with him wherever he was.
Doug had dedicated his working life to the casino industry, a career that was both a passion and his gateway to the world. An avid poker player and respected colleague, he not only enjoyed the thrill of the game but also formed enduring friendships across the globe.
Most of all - he loved his family.
A celebration of life will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, for a time of visitation from 1 pm until time of service at 2 pm.
