Hawkins Laurie card1

Sept. 29, 1959 - Jan. 18, 2022

Peacefully, at home and surrounded by her family on Jan. 18, 2022 in her 63rd year.  It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Laurie Anne Hawkins (Smith), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, cousin and friend. Predeceased by her parents John Malcolm Smith and Joyce Beverley Smith (Roberts). Laurie will be deeply missed by her loving husband, partner & best friend, Tom, who never faltered during their journey together; her devoted children Amanda (Mike), Shawn (Michelle); her stepchildren Danae and Logan; her grandchildren Conner, Amelia and Emma who gave her so much joy; her siblings Lee (Jeff), Mick (Colleen) Brad (Chris) Lindsay (Liz) Rob, Chris and Traci (Anthony); and her nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunts & Uncles and many cherished friends.  She will be sadly missed by sister-in-law (and partner in mayhem) Kathy, and Bob Hawkins, and Robin (John) Little.
We celebrate Laurie's life, her joy of living, her indomitable spirit and her love of family.  We remember her humour and laughter and her generous and welcoming nature. She lived every minute to the fullest. We would all be wealthy if we had a dollar for every time Laurie said "It'll be fun!! It'll be GREAT!!!" Despite the recent challenges, and with the help of Tom, their adventures continued.   She loved camping with family, visiting with her children, playing with the grandkids, family reunions, Christmas and birthday parties - any excuse to get together.  Laurie did it her way, and we were blessed to take this journey with her. She was an inspiration to family and friends who were awed by her determination, courage and dignity. She never complained. She never gave in to the cruelty and limitations that ALS tried to impose on her life.  She was, and is, a constant reminder of how important we are to each other and how strong are the bonds of family.

=== “Think of me,' she said because it seemed like something a girl in a fairy tale might say. Think of me. Remember me. Love me. Turn me into a story you tell again and again." -  Jennifer McMahon ====

We will, Laurie.   You will join Mom & Dad in our classic campfire stories.  We're sure we will hear you laughing.

Visitation will be held at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St E. Orillia on Saturday January 22nd from 11-1 and 3-5 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.  An invitation only memorial service will follow. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to ALS Society of Canada through the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James St., E. Orillia (705) 327-0221.
