Philip Jackman has died in Orillia Ontario on October 30, 2022 after enduring a very trying illness for a few years with his good nature and wonderful sense of humour, wit and way with words intact.

Philip's abilities as a great, warm friend endeared him to many colleagues and friends and family here and in England who will miss him.

He is greatly missed by his wife, Shannon Jackman, sister-in law Mary Lou Davies, nephews Wynn Davies, Logan Grahame and Paul Lindsay, wonderful Canadian cousins and their families, and his family in England, sister Leila Smith and niece Sarah King, and her family.

Many will have some knowledge of Philip through his many years at the Globe and Mail, mostly as an editor, in the Opinion pages and Features Sections, but also writer, columnist, and man of many gifts (layout designer and computer whiz).

In retirement in the small city of Orillia he was almost immediately called to use most of these skills and all of his professional experience in the Commemorative Awards Committee, Mariposa Festival, Orillia Museum of Art and History, the Orillia Heritage Centre, and for several other organizations. He also had success as a terrific photographer involved in several exhibitions.

Philip had planned to devote himself to golf, of course, (family joke) and other very leisurely pursuits, and travel adventures with friends. Much to his surprise he became quite a successful curler since he was not so fond of cold weather activities. He also learned to love bridge, particularly with his Thursday group.

The family is very grateful to his friends and neighbours and caregivers, and particularly Joanne Matte, NSMHCC, Mariposa House Hospice staff and volunteers, Crystal Cabural at Functional Fitness and other supporters and care givers in Orillia.

You are invited to join family and friends to celebrate his life Saturday November 5 at St. Paul’s Centre, 62 Peter Street N, Orillia, On L3V 4Z1, visiting from 1 pm funeral at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow at the Orillia Museum of Art and History, 30 Peter Street S, Orillia, On L3V 5A9

If you wish to remember Philip with a donation, please consider OMAH, Mariposa House Hospice, an organization of your choice. Philip also recommended that you enjoy some great conversation, and fun with friends. No flowers please. Arrangements entrusted to the Mundell Funeral Home.
