Local and area Teacher for 45 years

Peacefully at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on April 8, 2022 at the age of 92. Missed by his dear sister Lenore MacDonald (late Donald Fraser MacDonald). Predeceased by his parents Grant Miller and Mary Ellen (McGinnis) Johnston and sister Joyce Johnston, and by his brother Ross grant Johnston.

He will be missed by his niece Heather L. MacDonald (Brian Ballantyne) of Edmonton and nephews Donald Grant and Ross Andrew MacDonald of Ramara Township and also his great nephews and nieces Ceilidh M. Ballantyne (Phyllis) of Edmonton, Findley M. Ballantyn (Ally) of Vancouver B.C., Elaine M. Vodarek (Jonathan) of Oro-Medonte, Grant N. MacDonald (Christine) of Chilliwack B.C., Neil J. MacDonald (Seanne) of Ramara, Andrew R. MacDonald and Benjamin F. MacDonald of Ramara.

Clare will be remembered by those he taught in one room schools mainly in the Orillia area Elementary Schools, Georgian College in Midland and retired from the Barrie Campus at the age of 65. Farm work occupied much of his summer vacation as he assisted our brother Ross. The family would like to take this opportunity to especially thank the the Mnjikaning Ambulance Service, the O.S.M.H. Emergency Department, Harvie 2, Dr. Brand, Home care Sue, Erin, Lee, and Carlee Woods, Renie Drybrough, Knox congregation friends, and our neighbours and dear friends for all or their support and caring.

A graveside service and interment will take place in the summer at a time to be determined at Atherley Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.  If desired, Memorial donations may be made to OSMH Foundation MRI Fund, Red Cross Disaster Relief, or Knox Presbyterian Church Uptergrove, and will be accepted by Carson Funeral Homes – L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E Orillia (705) 326-3595.
