With profound sadness, the family of Barbara Joan Leighton announces her passing at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Orillia, Ontario on Thursday, July 20, 2023 in her 86th year. Barbara goes on to join her husband Roy, the much missed love of her life. She was beloved by her family: son Mark and wife Tarrah and adored grandson Samuel; daughter Susan and husband Michael; nephew Scott and Nicola Osborne and their children Peter and Erin; niece Jan and Ken Janisse. She is so dearly remembered by sister Ferne Osborne and cousins Jean Morrison and Sherrie, Jeff, Tim, and Rob Chisholm and as a grandmother to Melissa, Nicole, and Cameron, and an aunt to Donna Hewitt and family.
Barbara was born in Orillia to Charles and Irene Hamill (nee: Chisholm). While she was fond of her childhood on the farm at Sebright, she embraced the adventure of becoming a Registered Nurse and studied at the Toronto Western Hospital. She returned to Orillia to practice and raise a family at Uptergrove. Barbara always gave generously of herself. She took care of everyone with love and kindness and opened her home and heart to everybody. Barbara loved to fill your belly and was the first one there if someone was suffering or needed her help.
Barbara was a devoted member of the congregation at the Atherley United Church for many years.
The Leighton family would like to thank the staff at Happy at Home Support Services and the Birchmere Retirement Residence for their compassion and care for Barbara during her final years.
