Magie; James "Jim" Ross

On June 3, 2023, James Ross Magie passed away suddenly in his 80th year. James (Jim) was a man of great faith in his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Growing up in Goderich, Jim enjoyed a close relationship with his mother and visiting their large extended family at the farm in Mountain Grove. As a young man with a growing interest in business and finance Jim started a career in banking which saw him live and work in many cities including Cambridge, Cornwall, and Bracebridge. Following 35 years with the Royal Bank of Canada, Jim launched a consulting business as a Financial Adviser where he thrived in his work with families.

Jim and his loving wife, Eleanor (nee Jennett), spent 50 years as avid cottagers near Dorset, Ontario ultimately transforming their cabin into a beautiful summer home. His favorite pastime was cruising the lake in his boat, visiting with friends and neighbours on their docks.

Each winter Jim and Eleanor travelled in the US, most often staying at their favourite vacation spot on Hilton Head Island where they made many wonderful memories taking long bike rides and walking on the beach.

He was community-minded having contributed to many churches and the Rotary Club in each city where he lived. Jim was a long-term and dedicated member of the Lake of Bays Mission Church where he also served as Treasurer.

Determined and focused, Jim exemplified unending courage while facing many challenges with life and health.

Jim was predeceased by his mother, stepfather, father, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife Eleanor, daughters, Jennifer (Vern), Suzanne, and son, Fred (Melanie), beloved grandchildren Ellen (Sean), Matthew, William, Sebastian, Giselle, Frédéric, Félix, and treasured great-grandchildren Jeremiah, and Nora.
