A poem in loving memory of a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Gladys Isabel Matthews, nee Armstrong, known by all her friends as "Issy", who quietly passed away on Sunday December 18th at Orillia's Soldier's Memorial Hospital, having just turned 85 in October:
We little knew when we woke that morn,
the sorrow the day would bring.
For the call was sudden and the shock severe
To part with one we loved so dear.
Married for 62 years, she is lovingly remembered by husband and best friend, Ross. In Ross's words, "She was the only girl I knew that really knew how to cook up pickerel !!" And all who had her fresh fried fish and warmed homemade buttered bread, sometimes at 11 at night, would agree !!
Loving mother of Valerie Hutchinson (nee Matthews (husband Lorne predeceased) of Warminster, Mark (Kim Nguyen) of Mississauga, Matt (Nicole Parent) of Oro-Medonte, Michael (Nathalie Wall) of Kingston. Cherished grandmother of John (Julie), Melissa, Michelle (Darryl), Jessica, Jorden (Kayla), Sarah, Madison, Ayden and her 2 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Donna (Wim) deMunnik of Coldwater and Joyce (Lyle) Smith of Grand Valley. Isabel is predeceased by her brother Arnott and sisters Helen and Marjory. And survived by her many nieces, nephews and their families.
