Passed away peacefully at Trillium Manor, in Orillia, ON July 30th at age 91. Beloved wife of John McSweeney. Devoted mother to Jim Kavanaugh (Kathleen), Ken Kavanaugh & Sharon Kavanaugh (Peter).
Cherished “Nana” of Jaclyn, Liz, Wil, Ralph (d.), Krystal, Tim, Shannon, Ken, Lane, Scott & many great-grandchildren.
Dear sister of deceased siblings Margaret & James McDermott. Auntie Millie to nephews, nieces & the children of cousins in the UK, USA as well as those of her lifelong Glaswegian friend, Phamie Smith.
Millie was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She came to Canada on her own via ship on the SS Rotterdam in 1950 at the age of 19. She landed in Montreal & eventually moved to Toronto where she met her husband, John. Together, they spent 26 years in Iqaluit, NU before retiring to Orillia
Millie was filled with love & her life was dedicated to her family. She kept her Scottish sense of humour throughout her years; always with a quick crack or comeback! Even during her battle with dementia, she would be up for singing one of the Scottish songs she grew up with as a child - & remember all the words! Her strength when faced with life’s challenges was admirable. Millie was one of God’s better people. She will be very deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at the Mundell Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 2nd from 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 3rd at 1 p.m. in the chapel. The life of her beloved John will also be celebrated since COVID restrictions prevented this at the time of his passing in 2021.
