Passed away peacefully at Mariposa House Hospice, Severn, on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, in her 94th year.

The first child of Myrtle Gilson (nee Brintnell) and Leslie George Gilson, Velma was born in Lindsay and spent her early years in the Lindsay region, not far from the Brintnell family farm in Woodville.

Her father was transferred with the Canadian National Railway to Midland when Velma was in her teens and she immediately liked the friendliness and beauty of the town. She took part in theatre productions, and modelled outfits for a local dress shop. As a young adult she became a member of the Midland Golf and Country Club where she met lifelong friend Joyce Heron.

Velma married Roy Morley in 1958 and sons, Douglas and Robert soon followed. They made their home in Toronto until 1976 when they moved to Orillia and became long-time proprietors of The Orillia Motel.

Velma was predeceased by Roy in 2003. She leaves behind sons Robert and Douglas Morley, her beloved grandsons Christopher and Cameron, sister and brother-in-law Jan and Ross Gilmore, niece Carol Davey, and nephews Don Morley and George Morley.

As per Velma's wishes cremation to take place.  Private family inurnment to take place at the St. Andrew's - St. James' Cemetery, Orillia.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com
