(November 18, 1940 - September 16, 2022).

Edmund James Joseph, (E.J.), Murphy passed away peacefully in his 82nd year on September 16, 2022 at Trillium Manor, Orillia, with his family by his side. Edmund was the beloved husband of Cherran (nee Wylie), loving father of Jim (Julie), Nadine (Rob) and Scott, adored grandfather of Erin, Alana, Matthew, Michael and Anna and dear brother of Mary (Healy), Anne, Mike and Pat.

E.J. was born and raised in Orillia, Ontario by his loving parents Edmund and Bernadette (Bun) Murphy on Oakfield Farms. He was a farmer and later worked at the Orillia Water Light and Power Commission. He was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist spending much of his time in Lake Temagami and Camp Wanapitei. Throughout his life, he was an integral part of the Bass Lake and Bard’s Beach community, involved in environmental restoration projects and social events, such as the annual Bass Lake Regatta. Far and beyond those passions, his favourite thing to do was spend time with his grandchildren, taking them waterskiing, fishing and playing ice hockey on Bass Lake.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22 from 12:00-1:45pm at Mundell’s Funeral Home, located at 79 West Street North in Orillia. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00pm at The Church of the Guardian Angels, 115 West Street North, Orillia. The family welcomes everyone back to Mundell’s for a reception following the funeral Mass.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation, 146 Mississaga Street West, Orillia, ON, L3V 3B3 (osmhfoundation.ca/donate) or the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, 25 Museum Drive, Unit 175, Orillia, ON, L3V 7T9 (Alzheimer.ca/simcoecounty).
