Douglas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, at the Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario, in his 82nd year.
Douglas, affectionately known as "The Bear," was the cherished husband of Bettyann Newman for 51 years. Loving father of Derrick (Peggy), and Kelly Anne (Lynda). Cherished grandfather of Tammy (Thomas), Shane (Kasey), D.J. (Rachel), Hunter (Jess), Kenneth, Heidi (Blake), Lorne, Austin (Megan), and the late Douglas (1987); and great-grandfather of Mason, Easton, Mary, Rose, Wyatt, Mya, Madison, and Brady. He was also a much-loved uncle of Allan, Robert, Jennifer, Jodi, Nicole, Michelle, and Jaime Lynn; as well as to many great-nieces and great-nephews. Brother of Linda (Joe) and Helen (Jerry); and brother of the late Carolyn Murney.
Known for his love of the outdoors, Douglas found joy in hunting and fishing, reveling in the beauty of nature. He had a passion for sports, with a particular fondness for baseball. He especially enjoyed watching baseball games across the border in the United States. He loved to travel, embarking on many adventures around the world with his wife. He especially enjoyed seeing many destinations from the comfort of a cruise ship.

Doug will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will live on forever in the hearts of those he touched.
