On May 26th at 3pm, Allison was finally released from the chains of aphasia that had imprisoned her for the last 7 years of her life, and is now en-route to heaven for a joyous reunion with her parents.
Allison graduated as an R.N. from London's Victoria Hospital in 1967, and after a short time at Toronto's Western Hospital and Private Duty Nursing in Hamilton she hung up her cap and cape and followed Bob to Vancouver, Ottawa and Mississauga, finally arriving in Orillia in 2006.
After leaving nursing Allison pursued her passion for arts and crafts and was particularly known for her doll making, weaving and dried flower arranging. She often decorated the Presbyterian churches where she was a member. Aphasia cruelly robbed her of her wonderful artistic talents, but fortunately did not take away her warm smile that endeared her to everyone she met.
Allison leaves behind her husband Robert (Bob) of 53 years, her two brothers Paul (Trish) and Tim Read, her girlfriends from childhood Beth Brescasin and Bonnie Keenan, and her loving extended family: sister- in- law Judith (Phil) in Scotland, niece Kelly (Craig ) in Ottawa, nieces Sarah and Hannah-Marie (Christian) in England, Charlotte (Mark) and Amy (Kam) in New Zealand and Australia, and Taffy, her loving cockapoo, who will live on forever in the scrap-book that never left Allison's side.
Allison also touched the lives of her great nieces and nephews; Tom, Luke and Amy in England, Joe in N.Z., Lucy and Emily in Australia, and Kyle and Alyssa in Ottawa.
The family gives special thanks to Ashley Pringle for the unending compassion that she has bestowed on Allison and Bob throughout Allison's difficult journey. Thanks also to Lisa Markov of the Couchiching Family Health Team, Allison's G.P., Dr Bill Tillmann, Annie Wihlidal of the Home and Community Support Service of North Simcoe, and the staff at Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital and Ontario Shores for their professional and particularly caring support during Allison's struggles.
She was a wonderful lady who will be missed by all she met. To quote Joni Mitchell, “You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone.”
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre (375 Mount Pleasant Rd, Toronto, ON. 416-485-5572) from 1 to 2 p.m., with service to follow at 2 p.m. Tea, coffee and juice will be available. A private interment will follow at a later date.
To get to the Funeral Centre at Mount Pleasant, enter through the east gate, turn right at the Main building, and then turn left and continue following the signs to the funeral centre.
