Margaret Ida Elizabeth Paradis

Margaret Ida Elizabeth Paradis passed away in Vernon, B.C., with family by her side on April 13, 2022, at the age of 103.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Gail Girard (Ron), Victor Paradis (Denise), Dennis Paradis (Suzanne) and Debbie Bolton (Kim), 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, brother Gary Grant (Carol) and numerous other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her first love and loving husband of 49 years Armand Paul Paradis, 2nd partner in life Tony Peters, sisters Dorothy (Babs) Gisborn and Helen McGrath, brothers Bill and Jack Grant, and grandchild Kara Dawn Hintz.

Peggy was a war baby born in 1918 in Seaford, Sussex, England, during the First World War to an English mother and a Canadian father serving in the First World War. At the age of 6 months, she sailed to Canada and settled in Fort William (now called Thunder Bay). Her father died on her 7th birthday. Peggy moved to Kapuskasing in 1929 when she was 11 years old. She travelled to school in a covered horse-drawn wagon which had a wood burning stove in the center during the cold winter months.

Peggy became a waitress at the Kapuskasing Inn. She lived there until she met and married a “handsome French boy”, Armand Paradis. Peggy enjoyed skating, skiing, going to hockey games and riding in Armand’s dog sled.

Peggy had 4 children and walked to Sensenbrenner Hospital for all 4 births. Two of which were in January, the coldest month of the year.

Peggy worked in the store she and Armand built in 1960 called the “Family Centre“ while raising their family. They sold the store in 1969 and moved to Kitchener to enjoy retirement. They wintered in Florida and returned in the spring to Orillia. Peggy learned how to drive in 1978 when she was 60 years old. She taught herself how to paint and was an excellent artist. Peggy also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and line dancing. In 2017, at the age of 98, Peggy took her “last big adventure” as she called it and moved to Vernon, B.C.

Peggy was kind, caring and loving with a positive outlook and love of life. An inspiration to everyone who knew her and a wonderful role model. We will all miss her and her beautiful smile. A life well lived.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Vernon Funeral Home, Phone: 250 542 0155.
