Pizans, Mrs. Antonina

On Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, peacefully at her home in Orillia on Lake St. John, in her 93rd year.

Antonina was born on July 15, 1931, Ludza (Nirza), Latvia, where she grew up and went to school.

She came to Canada after the second World War in 1952 and lived in Kitchener with her future in-laws before marrying Dr. Antons Pizans on February 19, 1955.

Antonina and her husband had two sons. She worked for an insurance company for a period and eventually decided to help her husband with his medical practice administrative requirements while raising their two boys.

She was very proud of her Latvian heritage and was an active member of the Latvian folk choir for many years as well as local Latvian social organizations in Kitchener. Antonina loved outdoor activities, flowers, socializing, to laugh, sing and to dance. She remained strong in her Catholic faith her entire life.

Beloved wife of Antons; loving mother of son, Anthony and his wife Mary of Bright’s Grove, son, Andrew and his partner Diane of Orillia. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Alexandra, Nina and Kianna, and great grandchildren Lilija, Arthur and Harpur. Sadly, missed by niece Renate and her husband Antonio, their children, Gian and wife Anna, Giacomo and wife Christina, of Toronto, niece Ingrid, and her children Arianda and Albertina of Latvia, .

Antonina was predeceased by sisters Elena and Valentina, brother Francis, mother, Albertina and father Francis.

We invite friends and relatives to join us in celebration of her life at the Mundell Funeral home, 79 West Street North, Orillia, on Friday, September 22, 11:30am – 1:30pm. Then to St. Columbkille Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 2pm. Interment will take place the next day, Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, at 1:30 pm at the Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener.

Reception to follow mass at St. Columbkille Roman Catholic Church.
