POOLE, Donald Edward

Posted

Donald Poole (1)

Donald Edward Poole, born May 26,1935, passed away on Friday July 22, 2022 in his 88th year. As he would say, "Holy shit that's old!".

Don was born on the family farm on Poole Road, Midhurst, ON, the 6th of 7 children of Lorne Poole and Nellie (nee Bell). One of his first memories was when the barn burned down, not because of the fire but because he had never seen so many people.

Don attended Section School #6, a 2 room schoolhouse located on Doran Rd , Midhurst. He walked or skied the 2 km to school, uphill both ways. There were many stories of the shenanigans when a substitute teacher was brought in from the city.

Don had a great love for the outdoors and nature, spending many hours foraging, hunting, fishing or just traipsing about the forest. He was also a master gardener and he loved to prepare and  try new foods. Money may have been tight at times but food was always tasty and plentiful.

A professional baker and a drywall contractor, Don was a handy one to have around. He was a quiet man, always ready to listen, encourage, and he always had wise advice when asked. Don and his wife Faye made a great team, as he was a great listener and Faye liked to talk.

Don was a man of strong faith who proudly served on church boards, taught Sunday school and lived his life as an example for his children and any who cared to watch.  He loved to laugh, always ready with a good joke. He had the best smile around, his whole face smiled, especially those eyes.

Don was predeceased by his wife Faye (nee Brown), his parents and siblings Lorne, Bob, Thelma, Bill, Mae, and Ethel. He has left behind his daughters Catherine (Ian), Lorna and Donna and his grandchildren Nick, Alex, Ben, Kirsten, Isaac, Katie-Lee (Jamie), Mac, Faye and great-granddaughter Elia, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's society or charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to the Carson Funeral Homes – L. Doolittle Chapel, 54 Coldwater St. E Orillia (705) 326-3595.
