Henry departed this world suddenly, yet very peacefully, on Dec 5, 2022, surrounded by his family and so much love.

Henry was one of those fortunate people who had a passion for his life’s work in the animal industry. He shared this passion with his wife Reta. They were Partners in life and business.

Along the way they also built a family.  Loving daughters: Christine (Jay) Hiles, and Sarah (Alex) Stevenson.  Treasured grandsons: Brock Hiles, and Thomas and Evan Stevenson.

Brother to: Elizabeth (Ed) Helden, Janet(predeceased), Jane (Jim predeceased) Van der Voort.  Brother-in –law to: Randy (Lynda) Roe, Rhonda (Tony) Milley, Roberta (Mike) Gaudet, Russell (Chris) Roe, Robin ( Pam) Roe. He also had numerous nieces and nephews, and many relatives in the US and the Netherlands.

Henry was a lifelong resident of Oro Medonte, but his friendships, whether on a personal or business level, stretched far beyond the township’s borders.  He always took time to strike up a conversation with anyone and loved to listen to people from all walks of life, young and old. For those of us who were privileged to know him well, the world feels a little less bright today.

Henry leaves behind quite a legacy. Not only with his family, but with a huge number of people he touched as a mentor, a business colleague, or a storyteller. Those who knew Henry will recall a story or two that he shared. He often captivated his audience for extended periods of time with numerous life adventures.

While travelling the country to establish the horse business, it was important to him to get back home to Reta, and he would tell her: “Leave the light on, I am coming home”

A celebration of Henry’s life will occur in late May at the family farm. Big Curve Acres.  If desired, donations in Henry’s memory to a charity of your choice would be appreciated and can be made through the Mundell Funeral Home (705)325-2231.
