It is with profound sadness that we announce that Sheila Smale passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2022.   She was born on February 16, 1949 in Sudbury, Ontario. Sheila was a much-loved wife for 53 years, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  Beloved daughter of the late Daniel and Frances Kelly (nee Jennings), she is survived by her devoted husband Alan, daughters Kelly (David D’Cruz) and Brenda.  Loving grandmother of Jeanie, Jack, Abigail and Daniel (predeceased).  Cherished sister of Brian (Dianne), Marilyn (Hal Smith) and Stephen (Caroline).  She will be missed by sister-in-law Margie Nelson (predeceased) (Archie Reid), and brother-in-law John (Debbie) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sheila graduated from McMaster University in 1972. While raising her two wonderful daughters she was the rock and foundation of the family, always there for support, practical advice and kindness.  She volunteered her time wherever she was needed, most recently at Soldier’s Hospital.  Before retiring, she managed the Orillia Literacy Council.  Sheila made many friends growing up in the Sudbury area and Mississauga and then living in Burlington, Owen Sound and Severn (Orillia).  She enjoyed her many travels across Canada and to Alaska, Australia, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Europe and most recently a Danube/Rhine River cruise in May and an amazing family trip to Ireland in July.  She loved spending time with family at the cottage on Ahmic Lake and the Kelly family Camp on Fairbank Lake.  Sheila was adept at many things including working with stained glass, quilting and curling.  She always wanted to be busy.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Carson Funeral Home, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595 where a Celebration of Life will be held on November 19, 2022 between 1:00 and 4:00 pm with sharing of memories beginning at 3 pm. Donations to Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society (Pancreatic) would be appreciated.  The family is extremely grateful for the tender care provided by Dr. Julie Gallagher, Dr. Meadley, Dr. Mary Cambridge and Dr. Tony Reid and the nurses at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital ICU and IMRS.  The assistance of palliative care nurses from Bayshore and the Happy at Home PSWs allowed Sheila to spend her last days in the arms of her family at home.  A beautiful soul, she will be missed.
