John Robert (Bob) Sweet: A Life Well Sailed, Crafted, and Loved
On a day that would have marked his 89th birthday, February 3rd, we fondly remember John Robert (Bob) Sweet. Married for 65 wonderful years to the love of his life, Dianne. His life with her was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they set a shining example of the importance of family and love, a legacy cherished by their children Catherine (David) Staples, Mike (Tina) Sweet, Pat (Les) Cross, and Theresa (Jason) Carpenter, and their grandchildren Courtney, Joel, Natasha, Samantha, Brandon, Madison, Matthew, Graydon, and Charlie. Great grandchildren Nixynn, Grayson and Briar.
Bob’s life was enriched by the close bonds he shared with his siblings, Maureen (John)Wright, Charlie (Noni) Sweet, Ann (Jim) Parker, John (Pat) Sweet and was preceded in death by Don (Teresa) Sweet, Pat (Jack) Corcoran, and Mike (Karen) Sweet. These relationships stood as a testament to his belief in the unbreakable ties of family.
Bob was not just a family man but also a respected teacher at ODCVI in Orillia. His legacy extended beyond the classroom with his many talents. A master craftsman, Bob could build and repair almost anything - from homes, furniture, docks to name but a few. He delighted in honing his skills as a wood carver in his retirement years. His generosity in sharing these skills with others was a hallmark of his character.
He shared his passion for sailing with his family, teaching them to navigate the waters of Georgian Bay, and after retirement, Bob and Dianne continued their adventure, skippering the Stormy Night sailboat at Killarney Mountain Lodge to the delight of lodge guests and capped it off by sailing Stormy Night to the Bahamas.

Bob’s life was an extraordinary voyage - full of adventure, love, laughter, and craftsmanship. Renowned for his love of dancing, his humor, and his infectious laughter, he brought joy to every gathering.
While he has set sail on his final journey, his stories, skills, and the love he shared will continue to guide and inspire us. Fair winds and following seas, Bob! You will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

A private celebration of Bob’s life will be held, honouring the joy and richness he brought into our lives.
