Szabunia, Ted John; (Toronto Firefighter) Passed away peacefully at PRHC, surrounded by loved ones on Monday May 2, 2022 at the early age of 62. Beloved husband of Brenda Mary Armstrong. Loving father of Shauna Courtney (Rob), Lindsey Challice (Justin), Brittany Chrysler (Chris), Tyler Szabunia (Victoria), step-father of Courtney Sheward (Dan), Natasha Sheward (Brendan), and Matthew Sheward. Dear grandfather of Evan, Brayden, Dawson, Colton, Grayson, Violet, Bennett and Callie. Son of Alfred and Jadwiga “Teresa” Szabunia. Brother of Elizabeth Szabunia and Ed Szabunia (Jackie). Predeceased by his sister Irene. Son-in-law of Hilliard and Maryelle Armstrong. Brother-in-law of Michael “Lou” Armstrong and Bridget Pewtner (Neil). Uncle of Samantha Ferry (John) and baby Emalee, Jason Pewtner (Larissa) and Shannon Pewtner.
Ted was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a dedicated firefighter for over 25 years. Prior to that he worked as a chef and landscaper, which were two of his fondest activities in life. His fellow firefighters will miss his cooking skills, as he was always happy to keep their stomachs full and spirits high. Ted was a passionate and selfless man that would lend a hand to anyone at a moment's notice. His love of gardening was admired by anyone driving by the house, and his love of music could be heard throughout the township. Many of his days were spent outdoors and taking in nature, feeding birds and watching the wildlife. He also enjoyed days spent on the motorcycle, ice fishing, boating, snowmobiling, hiking, taking pictures of the things and ones he loved, but most of all spending time with friends and family. He will be missed by all as he was taken from us far too soon.
Friends will be received at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street on Tuesday May 10, 2022. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, 513 Ennis Rd, Ennismore.
