September 4, 1929 - August 14, 2023

Passed away peacefully at her home in Sebright with Peter and Cindy on Monday August 14, 2023 at the wonderful age of 93.

She was a devoted wife for 41 years to her late husband Lloyd Tingey and a loving mom to her three sons RobinTingey (Gemma), Peter Tingey (Cindy) and the late Frederick Tingey (Maria). She was a wonderful grandma to Jeremy Tingey (Jennifer), Duane Tingey (Klerissa), Bradley Tingey (Melissa), Coady Tingey (Alannah), Jay McMackin (Alana), Siobhain Millen (Chad), Shauna Mc Closkey (Luke), Grainne Quinn (Mark), Martin McQuaid (Amber) and a Great Grandma to 22 Great Grandchildren. Barbara is survived by her 3 sister-in-laws Dawn Tingey, June Tingey and Karen Loshaw. She was the beloved Aunt Barb to many and a kind and caring friend to all who knew her.

She taught school at Buck Lake, Germania, Barkway and Ryde Public School for many years and when she retired from teaching, she enjoyed working at the Muskoka Centre until her retirement. Her many students and coworkers enjoyed sharing stories and reminiscing at her 90th birthday celebration.   She worked hard and loved her family life on the farm. She engaged in every aspect of the farm whether it be doing the barn chores, milking the cows, cutting wood to prepare for winter, mowing hay or finding time for her vegetable garden, pickling and homemade baking that she enjoyed doing immensely. The one and only job she refused to do was to drive the farm equipment. When Peter and Cindy got married, her one piece of advice was, “Cindy, never learn to drive that tractor or run the equipment.”

She was a strong, independent woman who was never afraid to say what she thought and was always there to help anyone she could.  The care, compassion and support that we received from the PSW team at Happy At Home, Bayshore nurses and the Home and Community Care Team North Simcoe Muskoka was incredible and very much appreciated. Thank you for helping us through mom’s journey. A special thankyou as well to our good friend Shawn Dawson and our family who stepped up whenever we needed them. Barbara will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Rest in peace mom, God Bless!

As per Barabara’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to join us on Saturday September 30, 2023 for a graveside service in Barkway @ 11am followed by a Celebration of Life and luncheon at the home of Maria Tingey “in the barn”.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory can be made to South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
