WORTLEY, Paul "Wally"

Posted

PaUL Wortley

Paul “Wally” Wortley passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, with the Love of His Life, his Wife Carol Ann by his side.

He was 76 years young. He approached his battle with Cancer ferociously, which was an outstanding illustration of the true strength of the human spirit. Paul was born on April 11th, 1946 in Toronto, Ontario to Ernest Weldon (Weldy) Wortley, and Romana Anne (Mona) Wortley (Nee McKechnie), and on that day the World became a much richer and more colourful place. He is survived by his Wife Carol Ann (Nee MacFadyen), his Mother-In-Law Eileen MacFadyen, Sister-In-Law Shelley Nemeth (Jim), Brother-In-Law Michael MacFadyen (Janet), Cherished Niece Carly MacFadyen, Special Cousins and their Families, as well as Countless Close Friends.

Predeceased by his Father Ernest Weldon (Weldy) Wortley, Mother Ramona Anne May (Mona) Wortley (Nee McKechnie), Father-In-Law Donald MacFadyen, and Special Nephew Connor MacFadyen. Paul was admired for his genuine personality, exuberant and positive outlook, incredible sense of humour, infectious laugh and tremendous love of life. Nobody grabbed life by the tail better than him. Paul was a natural and dedicated athlete, and played a variety of sports. His favourite being football, although hockey was a close second, and he thoroughly enjoyed the locker room antics and camaraderie. Paul loved the outdoors, especially being in, near or on the water, which is why boating became such a big part of his life.

He also enjoyed, cars, golf, snowmobiling, walking, and any activity that gave him a reason to spend time with Family and Friends. He had an innate ability to lift up every room and life that he entered. Paul had a natural curiosity, and a sincere interest in people and he loved to share a story or a laugh. He was a practical joker, and some of his antics were legendary. He was an original “Instigator”. Paul had an extensive career in broadcast sales, and worked at radio stations initially in Toronto, and then Orillia until his retirement in 2017.

Most of his clients became and remained his friends. Paul was as social as they come, and would never miss an opportunity to introduce himself and strike up a conversation. He had the gift of the gab, and a unique command of the English language. He gave new meaning to words like “Nurse”, as well as his original creations like “ Crown FX”, “Wobbly Pops”, and “Final Final” to name a few. He also had a cleverly creative way to change the lyrics to songs, that somehow would stick with you, so that you would never be able to hear the original version again. Paul enjoyed 5 O’Clock cocktails, Jimmy Buffet, Margaritaville, Corvettes, his Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins.

He had a genuine reverence for nature, the animal kingdom, and was also a real history buff. He loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips around the world, and especially loved his winter getaways in Florida. Above all else, Paul loved his Family and also his Friends . . . School Buddies, Boating Friends, Florida Friends, Cals Pals, Pink Flamingos, his Football Group, just to name a few. To honour Paul’s wishes, there will be no service. A private cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of a Live Lived to the Fullest will be arranged for Family and Friends at a later date.

Donations, if desired can be made as a Tribute in Paul’s name to The Terry Fox Foundation: https://terryfox.org Paul’s one last campaign drive after 40 years of participation. Paul left a huge imprint on our hearts, and He would not want anyone to be sad at his passing. He'd be the first to tell you he had a "Hell of a Ride" . . . who could ask for anything more than that? To honour his spirit, we encourage you to raise a “Final Final” class of your favourite adult beverage or wobbly pop for Paul . . . to celebrate a Life Lived to the fullest. Arrangements have been entrusted with Carson Funeral Homes in Orillia https:// www.carsonfuneralhomes.com
