Sandy Agnew, Municipal Election Candidate for Oro-Medonte Mayor

I live on Scarlett Line with my partner Lynne.

I hold certificates in chemical engineering techniques and ecosystem restoration.

I’ve worked in a variety of environmental and manufacturing industries progressing from lab technician to administration. I was a District Manager with Aquarobic Sewage Systems and Administrator for the North Simcoe Waste Management Association. From 2002 to 2015, I managed my own ecological restoration consulting business and continue to do Managed Forest Plans part time.

As Ward 3 Councillor from 2006-2010, I represented the township on the Lake Simcoe (06-10) and Nottawasaga Valley (06-08) conservation authority boards and co-chaired the O-M Environmental Group Advisors committee.

Since 2010 I have been very active with AWARE Simcoe, advocating for more openness and transparency in local and County governments.

I am a founder and Chair of the Simcoe County Greenbelt Coalition advocating for an expansion of the provincial Greenbelt to include Simcoe County as the best way to protect our water and farmland.

As Mayor I will work with council to:

  • Encourage and engage community residents’ organizations to provide meaningful input into Council decisions through proactive openness and transparency.
  • Ensure that all new development provides both long term NET BENEFITS to residents and contributes to our quality of life.
  • Maintain community infrastructure while acting in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Initiate educational workshops for members of council, staff and residents to increase their knowledge of sustainable communities.
  • Work with the agriculture community to ensure farming remains a viable business as local food production is critical to maintaining the long-term quality of life in Oro-Medonte and Simcoe County.
  • Work to protect the clean water in our lakes, streams and aquifers.
  • Encourage and support local entrepreneurial opportunities and economic benefits.
