A 21-year-old Barrie man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into online child pornography.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, members of the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested the suspect, whose name was not released.

During the arrest, police say a computer device was seized, “and an additional search warrant will be authored for forensics,” according to a news release.

“In December of 2021, investigators received an online tip concerning the uploading of child pornography via Instagram. The investigation led to several production orders and the execution of a search warrant, where two computer devices were seized for forensic analysis,” the release stated.

Police said forensic work was completed, which allegedly resulted in the discovery of more than 60 images of child pornography.

The accused has been charged with accessing child pornography, possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. He was remanded into custody and held for bail.
