Provincial police have charged a 22-year-old local resident after their vehicle was clocked at 160 kilometres per hour on Highway 400 north of Barrie.

At around 8:30 p.m., Friday, an OPP officer stopped the vehicle at Horseshoe Valley Road after the driver was caught doing 60 km/h over the posted speed limit.

The 22-year-old Angus resident was charged with stunt driving and issued a 30-day license suspension, a 14-day vehicle impound and a court date.

Meanwhile, Barrie police recently tweeted about speed-measuring sign on Essa Road, saying their traffic unit last week charged 25 motorists with speeding , issued nine Part III summonses and impounded one vehicle associated with a suspended driver.

Both police agencies are asking motorists to slow down and heed speed limits.
