Arrest made in Midland robbery

Update

Investigating officers have identified the male charged in relation to this incident as Ryan Dicks, 35 years, of Midland. He was arrested and taken into police custody and was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario court of Justice in Midland on Aug. 23, 2018. He will remain in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 6, 2018.

Original Release

On Aug. 20, 2018 at approximately 7:35 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) outhern Georgian Bay detachment were dispatched to investigate a report of robbery that had just occurred in a Midland home. 

Investigation reveals that a lone male entered the home, approached two victims and an altercation occurred. One person suffered non-life threatening injuries.   

The Southern Georgian Bay Crime Unit, Southern Georgian Bay Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) and K-9 Unit were called in to assist in the investigation.  

One person has been arrested and charged with the following: 

  • Robbery with Weapon contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Assault with A Weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm contrary to 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Break and Enter contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

Police believe this to be an isolated incident and feel there are no public safety concerns. The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Southern Georgian Bay Crime Unit. The name of the accused is being withheld until further investigation is complete.
