CHATHAM-KENT — The body of a Barrie man has been recovered from Lake Erie after provincial police say he fell off an inflatable raft and failed to resurface on Saturday.
Chatham-Kent OPP have identified the deceased as 25-year old Yuriy Zhlobitskyy, of Barrie.
On Sunday, Aug. 29, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the OPP's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, along with members of Chatham-Kent OPP and the Elgin County OPP Marine Unit, recovered the missing swimmer's body in Lake Erie near Rondeau Provincial Park's Beach No. 2.
The coroner attended the scene and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for today in London.
At 1:39 p.m., Saturday, provincial police officers and members of the Chatham-Kent Fire Department responded to Rondeau Provincial Park, located in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, for report of a swimmer in distress.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton (JRCC), Canadian Coast Guard, OPP Aviation Services, and members of the Rondeau Provincial Park service assisted in the search.
