Bracebridge resident faces charges; OPP seek help locating suspect who fled

As result of the investigation police located and seized a quantity of controlled substances and a 30-06 calibre rifle, from the car

The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two persons with several offences, following a traffic stop in the town of Huntsville.  

On March 2, 2022 at 7:38 a.m. a member of the Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol when they initiated a traffic stop on West Road. A passenger in the car they stopped, Taylor Sovereign, was wanted for bail violations. Sovereign fled on foot from the car, leaving the driver and one other occupant.

Central Region OPP, Canine Unit with Central Region OPP Emergency Response Team, and Huntsville Detachment members completed a search for Sovereign who was not located.

As result of the investigation police located and seized a quantity of controlled substances and a 30-06 calibre rifle, from the car.

The following two people have been charged:

Kathleen Van Duzen (25), of Lake of Bays Township.

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance- crack cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance- cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by crime contrary to section 96(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm contrary to section 94 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Kali Lebrun (22), of Bracebridge.

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance- crack cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance- cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Control Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by crime contrary to section 96(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm contrary to section 94 of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The two accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear on March 29, 2022 in the Ontario Court of Justice Huntsville.

Taylor Sovereign (27), of Huntsville is wanted by police.

The OPP would like to advise there is no concern for public safety.
