Call for impaired driver waving knife leads to charges

The 33-year-old was allegedly waving a knife in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, police say

NEW TECUMSETH - The Nottawasaga OPP have laid several charges after responding to a call of a possible impaired driver in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Alliston, waving a knife.

The call came in on Oct. 7 just after 2 a.m. 

Police later located the vehicle in the area of 10th Sideroad in Alliston, the OPP said in a news release.

After an investigation Corby Schell, 33, of New Tecumseth was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol or Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition for Dangerous Purpose
  • Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance - Other Drugs

The accused was later released on an undertaking to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on Nov. 2.

No injuries were sustained, according to police.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Schell is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
