Police say impaired charges have been laid after a vehicle parked in no-parking zone caught the attention of an OPP officer.

Police say a member of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP on patrol noticed a vehicle parked in the no-parking section of a business parking lot on County Road 93 in Midland shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday.

There appeared to be a person asleep behind the steering wheel, police said in a news release.

Upon further investigation by the officer, the lone occupant was arrested for impaired driving, police said.

An investigation at the OPP detachment was conducted to confirm the officer's observations, according to police.

Mitchell Bird, 25, of Midland has been charged  with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 18. The driver was also served a 90 day driver's licence suspension and the  vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation guidelines, according to police.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Bird is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
