Driver escapes serious injury, facing charges in Hwy. 400 crash

Collision involving car and tractor-trailer happened shortly before 3 a.m. in northbound lanes near Essa Road in Barrie

Highway 400 northbound through Barrie was closed early this morning after a two-vehicle crash near the Essa Road ramps, resulting in severe damage to one of the cars involved.

Ontario Provincial Police say the collision happened around 2:53 a.m. on Jan. 23.

An OPP spokesperson says a car rear-ended a transport truck, causing considerable damage to the car.

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old Innisfil man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, according to police.

The man, whose name was not released, has been charged with impaired driving, driving while under suspension, possession of property obtained by crime as well as multiple drug offences.

Police would not say what the alleged stolen property includes as the investigation is ongoing. 

The driver of tractor-trailer not injured.

All highway lanes were expected to reopen around 7:30 a.m. following the cleanup.
