The driver, the lone occupant of this vehicle, was killed this morning after the vehicle crashed into a tree, police say.

An 83-year-old man from Tiny Township was been killed after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Tiny Township at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, police say.

"He was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Const. David Hobson of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP, adding "the vehicle was destroyed." The driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle, Hobson said.

The collision took place at the intersection of Dunsford Lane and Tiny Beach Road South. The road remains closed as the investigation continues.

A man, who is vacationing with his family at the nearby Wymbolwood Lodge but who wanted to remain anonymous, said he heard the crash this morning.

"There was a loud crash and some of us went out to see. There was a woman calling 911 and a driver of a dump truck had pulled over and he used his fire extinguisher to put out the fire before it could really get going," the man said.

The man photographed the scene before police arrived.

"The fire was put out very quickly. We knew before the police got there — the driver of the dump truck said there was no pulse on the driver so we knew he was dead," he said.

The next of kin are being notified and the cause of the collision is being investigated, said Hobson. The coroner is on the scene.

Tiny Township firefighters, Simcoe County paramedics, Southern Georgian Bay OPP and the OPP Central Region technical traffic team responded to the scene.

The road remains closed, said Hobson, but he said it's expected to reopen at around 2:30 p.m.
