Duo charged after allegedly crashing into parked vehicle, fleeing scene (update)

Suspects were arrested and charged after a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia were located at the scene, police say

Two occupants fled the scene after a vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle on Wycliffe Cove in Tay Township this morning at around 7:55 a.m.,  prompting a community member to call 911.

Investigators from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Canine Unit (K9) and Emergency Response Team responded and located two suspects nearby.

The suspects were arrested and charged after a quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia were located at the scene, police said in a news release.

Police say the driver, 43-year-old Chrystal Ross of Tay Township, has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court (two counts)
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failure to stop after accident

And also contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused has been held for a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Police say the passenger in the vehicle, 46-year-old Vince Kelly Sunday of Midland has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

The accused has been released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 18, 2023.

Wycliffe Cove has reopened to traffic.
