A routine traffic stop proved anything but routine on Thursday night.
At about 9:30 p.m., Orillia OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on West Street. After one of the males provided a false name to officers, things went from bad to worse for the pair in the vehicle.
An Orillia man and a 19-year-old from Scarborough soon found themselves arrested and facing multiple weapons charges.
After a male provided a false name, he was searched and police discovered he was carrying a loaded firearm. Officers also located a can of bear spray in the vehicle. Police also learned that the arrested individual was currently breaching their conditions from previous charges.
As a result, Jalen Salmon, 19, of North York, has been charged with two counts of carrying a concealed prohibited device or ammunition, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm obtained by crime, being an occupant of a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon, transporting a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and obstructing a peace officer.
The accused was held for a bail hearing, which was slated for today at the Barrie Court of Justice.
Mark Trowbridge, 41, of Orillia is also facing multiple charges. He is accused of careless use of a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, being the occupant of a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm obtained by crime, transporting a firearm in a careless manner and carrying a concealed prohibited device or ammunition.
The accused was held for a bail hearing slated for today at the Barrie Court of Justice.
