An e-bike rider who caught the eye of several community members as a possible impaired operator in the area of Fourth Street in Midland crashed into a guard rail at approximately 5:13 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2022 on Fourth Street near Ontario Street.

As a result of the crash, attending officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services secured the scene and triaged the lone injured rider, and an impaired driving investigation was commenced.

The investigation revealed sufficient grounds to criminally charge Peter Pyman, 48, of Midland with:

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 1, 2022. Pyman also faces a 90-day driver's licence suspension as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and 45-day vehicle impound.

The accused was transported to a Midland area hospital for medical treatment of injuries sustained in the crash by at-scene paramedics and later released.

OPP officers conducted 31 RIDE program check stops within the detachment area over the Nov. 3-7 timeframe, checking 477 drivers for signs of impairment.
