A motorcycle crash that closed Highway 401 westbound in the Kitchener area resulted in the death of a Barrie man.

Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a social media post that the motorcyclist apparently lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected from it, striking the road.

Schmidt said no other vehicle was involved.

Westbound lanes of the 401 were closed with traffic in the area being diverted as a result of the crash.

Police hoped to have the westbound lanes reopened by 1 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing.
