Five people taken to hospital after morning crash in Barrie

Barrie police closed a section of Bayfield Street in the city's north end early Friday morning following a multi-vehicle crash. A 46-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving and leaving the scene of a collision.

Five people were taken to hospital and a man is facing impaired charges following a multi-vehicle collision on Bayfield Street in Barrie's north end early this morning. 

City police and emergency crews were called to the intersection of Bayfield and Hanmer streets around 1:15 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 8.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Jennett Mays said the five people taken to hospital all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A 46-year-old man was arrested a short distance away. He has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of a collision.

The road was closed for several hours between Livingstone Street and Carson Road for the on-scene investigation, but reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
