Foul play officially ruled out in death of Sudbury councillor

A release from Greater Sudbury Police Service states that the post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 20, confirming that his death was attributed to medical causes.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service has officially reported that there was no foul play involved in the death of city councillor Michael Vagnini.

A media release issued on Feb. 21 stated the post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 20, confirming that his death was attributed to "medical causes, the details of which will remain private in consultation with his family.”

A search-and-rescue effort that lasted a little more than two weeks ended on Feb. 13 when the councillor’s remains were found at a seasonal residence on Reserve Camp Road on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation

“We once again wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Michael Vagnini, and we continue to ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” today’s media release read. 

“We also would like to extend our gratitude to the Ontario Provincial Police as well as the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Police for their collaboration on this investigation.”
