UPDATE: OPP conclude West St. investigation; details scant

Officers advise people in the area to lock their doors and stay inside and urge people to avoid the area due to the ongoing investigation

UPDATE
At 9:15 p.m., the Orillia OPP Tweeted that they had concluded their investigation and had re-opened the portion of West Street that had been closed.

OPP Acting Sgt. Brett Boniface said one person was taken into custody but no charges have been laid at this time.

"There is no threat to public safety," he said, noting police are continuing their investigation.

More information will be released tomorrow, police say.

ORIGINAL STORY:
There is a heavy police presence at the north end of West Street this afternoon as the OPP conduct an 'active investigation.'

A reporter at the scene says there are 12 OPP cruisers in addition to paramedics lined up on West Street around a townhouse unit at the complex at 451 West St. N. Other specialty units, including a tactical unit, have since arrived. Several people say they saw officers with guns visible.

According to Nosey Neighbours, officers responded to a "high priority" weapons call after a male, armed with what was described as a revolver, yelled at some kids in the area.

Officers advised people in the area to lock their doors and stay inside until the situation is under control.

The City of Orillia Tweeted that the "heavy police presence" was not impacting the municipal voting station at nearby Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School.

The Orillia OPP could not be reached for comment.

We'll update this story when more information becomes available.
