Barrie police are searching for a suspect following a knifepoint robbery Tuesday afternoon at a Bayfield Street store.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 27, city police officers responded to a robbery that had just taken place at "large retail store" located on Bayfield Street in north Barrie. Police did not release the name of the store.
Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the male suspect had entered the store and proceeded to select a number of items. He then placed them in a backpack.
"As the male passed all points of sale, he failed to pay for the selected items that he had selected," police stated in a news release. "This thief then left the store and when approached by a loss prevention officer, a struggle ensued, a knife was violently displayed and a serious threat was made."
Police say the store's loss prevention officer released their grip on the suspect, who then fled on foot toward Livingstone Street West, but only did so after receiving a minor, non-life-threatening injury.
Police are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying this suspect who is described as a white man, approximately 20 to 30 years old. He was wearing a black balaclava, which covered his entire face and only exposed his eyes. He was also wearing a large grey hooded sweater with the hood over his head, blue jeans, and black shoes with a white sole. He was carrying a dark-coloured backpack with yellow/green lining around the zippers.
