A 21-year-old Barrie man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into online child pornography.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, members of the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit arrested the suspect, whose name was not released.

Following a forensic review by police, the suspect was charged with two counts of accessing child pornography, two counts of possession of child pornography, and one count of distribution of child pornography.

On Thursday, March 9, 2023, police executed a search warrant at a Barrie residence where they seized numerous computer devices.

“The accused used the internet and social media platforms to upload images and videos of child pornography. He was held for bail and released later in the day with several conditions and a future court date,” stated a news release from city police.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday this investigation is unrelated to a similar arrest made on Oct. 5, 2023 and reported on Tuesday.

None of the allegations against either of the accused have been tested in court.
